Over the next two years, more than 2,000 job seekers—matched primarily to construction- related occupations—will be served by the Sandy Recovery Workforce1 Career Center in Coney Island. Operated by Grant Associates under contract with the NYC Department of Small Business Services, this new center will help job seekers in 36 zip codes identified as Sandy disaster recovery areas to train for and secure jobs. Training vouchers will be available for qualified candidates residing in the 36 zip code areas who want to enter the construction industry. Approximately 100 apprenticeship graduates are expected to complete the program, said center Director Stephen Anderson. This is the city’s 17th Workforce1 Career Center and, similar to other locations, will match job seekers with positions in various industries, including food services, hospitality and retail, and in the professional and administrative fields.
