Mayor Michael Bloomberg applauds Brooklyn Workforce1 Center for Barclay’s recruitment leadership at final State of the City address on February 14.

The Brooklyn Center, operated by Grant Associates under contract with the New York City Department of Small Business Services, was recognized by the Mayor for taking the lead in filling newly created positions at the Barclay’s Center. The Barclay’s Center, a state-of-the-art arena and home to the Brooklyn Nets, opened its doors September 21, 2012.

The recruitment effort was managed by Grant operated centers in Brooklyn and Queens, as well as other centers throughout the city. More than 15,000 part-time and fulltime applicants were recruited and interviewed and over 1,000 Barclay Center placements were facilitated by Grant Associates. The average salary was between $11-$15 an hour for positions ranging from Security Guards, to Guest Services, and Housekeeping.

In order to attract all the talent required for the various positions, the Workforce1 Career Centers collaborated with community partners, notably the New York City Housing Authority. In total, over 1,400 candidates secured employment, of which 75% of them are residents of Brooklyn.
